Boulder Dentists Take a Stand Against Sweets This Halloween
Trick-or-treaters can exchange their excess candy for cash and donate the candy to our troops overseas. This is one trick that will be a treat for kids, parents and the troops, too.

BOULDER, CO, October 30, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Two area dentists are redefining the phrase "put your money where your mouth is." This Halloween, trick-or-treaters can bring their excess candy to the Boulder Dental Group in Boulder and Gordon West DDS Aesthetic and General Dentistry in Lafayette and receive $1 per pound. The candy collected will be shipped to all of our brave men and women in the armed forces in the Middle East. Dr. Marc Alber and Dr. Gordon West are leading this anti-decay movement by giving away dollars and glowing electric toothbrushes in exchange for the large amounts of excess candy that most kids receive on Halloween.

"Let's use all that excess candy to help lift the spirits of our troops in the Middle East. Visiting your dentist twice a year and brushing daily are great preventative measures, but doing away with all those excess sweets would really give your teeth a healthy boost," says Dr. Marc Alber from Boulder Dental Group. And Dr. Gordon West comments, "Kids can still have all of the fun of trick-or-treating, and now their piggy banks will benefit as well. Plus, these glowing brushes we're giving out are really cool--they're like light sabers for your mouth."

Global sugar consumption for kids increases by about 2% annually and currently sits at 50 million tons per year, which means parents need to be sure their kids teeth are being cared for more than ever. Candy, along with hurting children's teeth, can also lead to hyperactivity and weight gain. In some cases, the wrong types of candy can even lead to broken teeth and damaged braces.

Candy will be collected at Gordon West DDS, 1140 West South Boulder Road, Suite 201, Lafayette, CO the Friday after Halloween, November 5th , from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. The candy must be unopened. Letters, pictures or other lightweight care items may also be donated and will be included with the candy to be distributed to our troops.
