Chicago Dentist, Dr. Ted Siegel, Buying Back Halloween Candy To Send Overseas To America's Troops

CHICAGO, IL, November 18, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Theodore Siegel, a cosmetic dentist in Chicago, is currently collecting leftover Halloween candy from Chicago area children to send to America's troops serving overseas.

Children can bring up to three pounds of unwanted Halloween candy to the Chicago dentist and earn $1 for every pound. The program is a part of a national program, called 'Halloween Candy Buy Back.' Dental offices around the country participate and then send the candy to Operation Gratitude, a program put on by the California Army National Guard. Operation Gratitude then packs and sends the candy to deployed soldiers overseas.

"We know our men and women serving overseas sacrifice a great deal every day. They're constantly putting themselves in harm's way and they miss out on so much going on back home. Sending extra Halloween candy to them is a small way we can show our support. It's also a way to foster good will in these war torn countries. Troops have always given candy and other small treats to local children using their own paychecks and our buy back program means they can keep a little more money in their pocket and still see the smiles from the local children," said Dr. Siegel (http://www.bigsmiledental.com).

Dr. Siegel and the rest of the staff at Big Smile Dental do more than just offer cosmetic dentistry services, including teeth whitening and veneers in Chicago. Each year on Valentine's Day, the office opens up to patients who don't have dental insurance. Patients line up for the opportunity to have cavities filled, painful teeth extracted and even have their teeth whitened - all free of charge. The program has served over 2000 patients and Big Smile Dental has provided over $1.25 million worth of treatments.

"It's so important to give back, whether it's for our troops overseas or to our neighbors right here in Chicago. Too many people are forced to go without dental care because they don't have dental insurance and can't afford to pay for the dental work they need. We think quality dental care is a right, not a privilege and that's why we offer this service every year. We're already planning on another amazing turn-out for Valentine's Day 2011," said Dr. Siegel.
