FERNANDINA, FL, August 03, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Kenneth A. Mertz, Jr., Dentist for the Duval County Health Department, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who :for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in dentistry and public health.

Dr. Mertz has been a dentist for over 30 years. Immediately after graduation from Fairleigh Dickinson University School of Dentistry, he joined the United States Navy where he served for over 21 years. His diverse duties included serving aboard the USS California, the USS Nimitz and the USS Sierra. He spent five years assigned to the United States Marine Corps and he served 15 months at the Guantanamo Naval Base, Cuba and six months deployed to Port Au Prince, Haiti. After six years of managing a successful private practice, he joined the Duval County Health Department where he is the supervisor of Mobile Dental Unit l. His responsibilities include providing dental examinations to over 30 children a day at their schools or day care facilities and pediatric dentistry at six clinics located throughout Duval County.

Dr. Mertz's education includes a Doctor of Dental Medicine, a Masters in Public Administration, a Masters of Human Physiology and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Metaphysical Theology. He is a graduate of a two-year residency in Comprehensive Dentistry and the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College.

Dr. Mertz is an adjunct professor of Anatomy and Physiology for Florida State College at Jacksonville and has previously taught for City Colleges of Chicago and Valdosta State College of Georgia.

In addition to his dedication to dentistry and teaching, he has written and self-published three books and he is working on several more. He holds a patent for a tank carrying and stowing device and is working on a few other inventions. Dr. Mertz. is interested in meeting someone who can help with manufacturing and marketing his inventions.
